The Luchese Family

The Luchese Family has been in a state of withdrawal from power for about twenty-five years now. The Luchese family was first headed up by Gaetano Reina, who was boss till 1930. Gaetano Gagliano was in charge from 1930 to 1953. Gaetano was one of the original members of the Commission. '53 saw Gaetano Luchese come to power, and that is where the family got its current name.

Luchese headed the family during its glory years, and he made most of his money in the garment industry. He worked very closely with the Gambino Family. This was a rich and prosperous time for the family. After Luchese's death in 1967, there were many different bosses, none of whom really held the job for too long.

The problem that the Luchese family would eventually run into, was that it's members didn't have the best since of loyalty to the family. Three of the bigger member's all went stool pigeon in the 1990's. This includes former street boss Alfonse D'Arco. Joe DeFede is in control right now, but he is currently facing racketeering charges.
