The Genovese family can trace its history back to the man who started it all. Joe 'The Boss' Masseria was the family's first boss. Masseria was actually the boss of bosses until his murder in 1931. The Genovese Family kept its power when he was succeeded by none other than Charles "Lucky" Luciano. Luciano was not only in charge on the Genovese Family, but he was pretty much THE boss in The Commission.
Luciano ruled until 1936, when he had to leave the country to avoid charges being brought against him. Many men have ruled since him, including Vito Genovese (the family's namesake), Vincent 'The Chin' Gigante, and Anthony 'Fat Tony' Salerno. Gigante was the most recent boss, until he was brought up on racketeering charges.
In place of Gigante right now is Dominick 'Quite Dom' Cirillo. Cirillo is very suspicious of those around him, and very cautious in the way he does business. He rarely does any type of business on the phone. The family is continuing to prosper to this day with Cirillo in charge.
