Scholarship Opportunities

Communication Contest for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CCDHH) - This contest is designed to offer young people who are deaf or hard of hearing the chance to present their thoughts on a topic in a public forum. This experience helps to develop the skills and confidence to present in sign language or orally to a large audience. The contests are usually held in May each year. The club winner advances to a District contest. The program provides a valuable opportunity to compete for a $1,500 college scholarship. Nearly 500 Clubs and 45 Districts sponsor this program each year!

Essay Contest- This contest gives young people the chance to write about their own opinions regarding the world in which they live. Students can use their personal experiences, the experience of their country or a more historical perspective. The selected topic is meant to give young people the room to develop their own views around one central idea. Essays are due in December of the calendar year. A panel of judges selects a winner. The winning essay is sent to the District Chairman who has a panel of judges select a district winner. Participants have the chance to win college scholarships of up to $1,500 at the District level and up to $5,000 at the International level.

Oratorical Contest- This contest is designed to inspire today’s young people to motivate and inform others through the art of public speaking. Club winners move on to a Zone competition and Zone winners move on to a Regional competition and Regional winners move on to a District competition It provides the winning boy and girl of the District level competition with the opportunity for a college scholarship of up to $1,500 and express their views on a pre-assigned topic.
