School Life and Career
Archie was always supportive to his kids when it came to sports, but he also taught his kids that academic always comes first. Academic didn’t come
naturally to Peyton like his athleticism, but still he was a good student. He might not prepare for the exam until that morning, but still he would
get up at 5:00 am in the morning and read for the test. In his freshman year Peyton started playing football for Newman High School. His dad always
supported him and was never shy from helping Peyton when he asked. Archie would teach him taking quick snap, long balls, calling plays, and basis of
quarterbacking. Lesson from Archie was good, but watching his older brother Cooper playing became the real inspiration for Peyton.
In school, when asked which position he wanted to play, he said ‘defensive back’ or ‘quarterback’. Unfortunately in his freshman year Peyton didn’t get to
play much. All he wanted was to be a starting quarterback for his team. So he trained extra and worked hard the whole summer after his freshman year.
His hard work paid off, and he became the starter in his sophomore year. From then, he blew away everybody’s expectation from the very first game. He
led his team 12-2 and advanced to state semifinals in his very first year. Peyton’s number just kept on getting better and better. In his senior year
he passed for 2500 yards and 30 touchdowns, and Newman went undefeated that season.
Peyton finished his high school career with 7200 yards and 91 touchdowns. He was also named the Gatorade National Football player of the year for Louisiana during his school career.
