Record Breaking Season

Manning in 2004 Although 2004 season started with a disappointing loss to New England Patriots, but the season proved to be the most successful season for Manning after that loss. In 2004, Peyton Manning's statistics broke Dan Marino's decades old record of most touchdown passes in single season. Manning threw for 49 touchdowns, which blew away Marino's single season record of 48 touchdowns. After losing to the Patriots, the Colts won their next 4 games, during which he also earned AFC offensive Player of the week award for his fantastic performance against Greenbay Packers in week 4. Despite Manning threw for over 800 yards in the next 2 games, the Colts lost both games against Jacksonville and Kansas City. Manning and the Colts fired right back and won there next 8 games and ended the regular season with 12-4. During regular season Manning was named AFC Offensive player of the week three more times for his mind blowing performance against Houston, Detroit and San Diego. Manning finished the season with 4577 Yards, 49 Touchdowns, and 121.1 QB ratings. His QB rating was again record breaking, blowing away Steve Young's 112.4. After regular season, Manning was named AP NFL MVP of 2004 with 49 out of 50 votes from the Associate Press sport writers. Manning was also names Best NFL Player at the ESPY Awards and also received ESPY Awards for Best Record-Breaking Performance for his 49 record breaking touchdowns.

In the post season, the history repeated itself. In the wildcard round, Manning threw for 458 yards and 4 touchdowns which is second all time and helped Colts in the blowout victory against Denver Broncos. However, the Colts lost their next game against New England which ended their season. But the big day in Manning's life was yet to come.
