Sodding

A large home in Montevallo: Sod was layed in front and side yards. The one landscape option that Jeff recommends most is sod. He says that it is the "main ingredient" in any landscape design! It is an instant fix to any lawn problem including a new home or office that needs quick final touches, or an older place that needs a makeover. Sod is an asset that can immediately beautify any size area from small garden homes to huge estates.

The job of sod in a landscape includes the following:
Outlines a house or building
Outlines shrub beds or mulch areas
Makes everything stand out
Helps with erosion control

The main sods that Jeff works with are Bermuda and Zosyia.
Bermuda Sod works best in the south. It is able to withstand both extreme heat, as well as sufficient amounts of rain. There are five different varieties of Bermuda that you can choose from. All are beautiful but vary in color and texture.
Zosyia Sod is great for this environment too. There are two main types of this which include Z-52 Zosyia and Emerald Zosyia. This sod tends to be very green and makes for a beautiful lawn!
When considering sod, it is important to know that yardage of the area that is being sodded. Sod is ordered by the pallet and each pallet comes with approxmately 50-55 yards worth of sod. You must also decide if you would like rolled sod or regular, pieces of sod. The rolls work nice for larger areas and are a quicker way to get the job done. They come in both mini-rolls and large rolls. Another option is just to get the pallet of rectangular pieces of sod. These take a little longer to lay when sodding an area; however, once they have been down for a period of time and are rooted, they grow together nicely and do not leave a "patchwork" effect in the landscape.
Jeff highly recommends the incorporation of sodding into any landscape design!
