Things to consider before picking out a Chihuahua.
- Chihuahuas are very sensitive to cold and should be inside dogs.
- They do not need a lot of exercise so are perfect for small homes and apartments.
- Because they are small, you should think twice about getting a small dog if you have much larger dogs. Also, they prefer to be around other dogs of their own kind.
- Short haired Chihuahuas need very little grooming and can be bathed at home in your sink or tub.
- Long haired Chihuahuas need only a little more grooming and can simply be brushed often to keep their coats softy and shiny.
- These dogs are very intelligent.
- If you have cats, make sure that the two animals will get along. Many Chihuahuas love cats, because they are roughly the same size and make for someone to play with.
- Because they are very small, Chihuahuas are popularly carried around in purses and many places sell purses particularly for carrying around your little pet.
- Can you afford the dog? Pure bred Chihuahuas are not inexpensive. If you simply want the dog as a pet and not to breed it, then perhaps a mixed Chihuahua is right for you.
- If you do not plan to breed the dog, then you should definitely consider having the dog spayed/neutered.
