Picking Out Your New Friend

Chihuahua Puppies

When picking out a Chihuahua, first you must ask yourself the following questions:

Would you rather have a puppy or a full grown dog?

Is a pedigree or a mutt better for you?

Do you want a deerhead or an applehead?

Would you rather have a long hair or short hair?

Also, these are not toys. Chihuahuas are living creatures that need love and care. Before you adopt a puppy, here are a few things to consider (according to the AKC):

The main thing you should keep in mind when adopting a Chihuahua is that the lifespan of a dog can be more than 15 years. If you do not think that you can make the commitment, then perhaps you should rethink the decision.

There are Chihuahua breeders willing to sell you a high priced little puppy almost year round. However, if you are not planning to breed the dogs, then adopting from a Chihuahua rescue center or shelter would be your best bet. A great place to keep in mind is the Chihuahua Rescue Center.
