
The Iron Bowl is one of the oldest football rivalries in
the SEC. The rivalry began on Feb. 22, 1893 in Birmingham, AL it is the second oldest rivalry game in the
Southeastern Conference. The rivalry causes the state to split every year on who they will support for the game.
Currently Alabama leads the series with a overall record of 39-33-1, their 39th win came last year when they blew
out Auburn 36-0 which is now refered to as "THE BEAT DOWN IN T-TOWN." The largest margin of victory came in 19
49 where Alabama won 55-0 over the Tigers. The highest scoring game came in 1969 where Auburn became victorious
winning 49-26. Some of the most memoriable games were, "PUNT BAMA PUNT" where Auburn won 17-16 by blocking 2 consecutive
punts and returning both of them for touchdowns, "RUN IN THE MUD" where Alabama won 7-3 by the legend Kenny Stabler
running 54 yards in the mud for a touchdown, and the final Irown Bowl Paul Bryant would coach was won by Auburn 23-22,
where Bo Jackson jumped over the goaline pile to win the game. This game earned the proper title "BO OVER THE TOP",
every game played may not earn a legendary title, but every game played is one to remember no matter what the record
of each team is going into the game.

The Georiga vs. Auburn game is the OLDEST rivalry in the SEC, it is known as the "DEEP SOUTH OLDEST RIVALRY." It dates back to 1892 where the first game was played on March 20 in Atlanta, Ga. Auburn leads the series 53-51-8, with Georiga approaching on the heels of Auburn being only 2 games from evening the series up. The largest margin of victory happen on November 30, 1900 were Auburn won 44-0 showing their dominance over Georiga in the early years of the rivalry. The highest scoring game came in 1916 were Goeriga was able to capture victory over the Tigers by winning 56-49. Georiga won the most recent game last year 17-13 giving Auburn yet another conference lost. The rivalry has been held in a number of different cities such as Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Columbus, Savannah, Montgomery, and Auburn. Georiga didnt make the visit to Auburn until 30 years after the rivalry began. with the rivalry being so close in the wins and losses column I am sure the next 5 years will be interesting to see who will become the champion of the south's oldest rivalry.

The Alabama vs.Tennesse game is the third oldest rivalry in the SEC, the game is played every year on the 3rd Saturday in the month of October. The game dates back to 1901 were the first game was played in Birmingham, AL. Alabama leads the series 46-38-7, which includes winning the most recent game 29-9. Last year was a great year for the University of Alabama going undefeated in the SEC which is a tall glass to fill. Nick saban earned the name "Saban Killer" because he assisted in causing the resignation of Philip Furmer and Tommy Tuberville by handing both of them losses by more then 20 points. The longest streak of the rivalry is held by Alabama with 9 wins in a row, while Tennesse has a streak of 7. The highest scoring game occured in 2003 with Tennesse winning 51-43. With new head coach Lane Kiffin at the helm of Tennesse football it will be interesting to see the outcome this October.
